Nikkan drums are rare and sought-after vintage Japanese drums manufactured in the mid-20th century by Nippon Kangakki Co., Ltd. (known by the abbreviation Nikkan). The brand holds a unique place in the history of musical instruments, particularly due to its close ties with the Yamaha group.

History and Connection to Yamaha

Nikkan was founded in Hamamatsu in 1917 and became renowned primarily for manufacturing wind instruments. During the 1960s, the company collaborated closely with Nippon Gakki (now Yamaha); Yamaha fully acquired Nikkan in 1967 and completely absorbed the company in 1970. Nikkan’s expertise and manufacturing facilities served as the foundation for the launch of Yamaha’s own successful drum and wind instrument divisions.
